Motorcyclist speeds through town at nearly 120 km/h - Motorcyclist caught at 118 km/h in 50 zone faces €1,500 fine and ban
A 21-year-old motorcyclist has been caught speeding at 118 km/h in a 50 km/h zone in Hanau. Police first noticed him after he revved his engine loudly twice, drawing immediate attention to his bike's excessive noise and speed.
The incident began when officers heard the motorcycle's loud revving, later discovering it lacked an exhaust silencer. Upon stopping the rider, they found his bike's mandatory roadworthiness inspection (MOT) had expired six months earlier. The motorcyclist admitted he was trying to 'break in the engine' after winter storage.
Authorities impounded the motorcycle on the spot. The rider now faces a €1,500 fine, two penalty points on his licence, and a three-month driving ban. This case follows stricter regional enforcement in Hanau and wider Hesse over the past five years. Police have increased traffic checks during the motorcycling season (April–October), with harsher penalties for speeding over 50 km/h above the limit—fines up to €2,000 and licence suspensions. Technical violations, such as faulty brakes or tyres, have also led to a 25% rise in penalties and demerit points, according to local police and Main-Kinzig-Kreis administration reports.
The motorcyclist's bike remains impounded, and his licence will be suspended for three months. The €1,500 fine and penalty points reflect the region's tougher stance on speeding and vehicle compliance. Stricter checks and higher penalties have become standard in Hesse's ongoing road safety campaign.
