MTN's 2026 Y'ello Care to Tackle Africa's Healthcare Gaps with Tech and Outreach
MTN Group has unveiled plans for the 2026 edition of its annual 21 Days of Y’ello Care initiative. Running from 1 to 21 June, the campaign will focus on expanding healthcare access across Africa under the theme ‘Expand Equitable Health for Every Community’. Employees and partners will roll out community-driven projects to strengthen preventative, primary, and emergency care services.
This year’s programme arrives as the continent continues to face deep-rooted healthcare challenges. Rural populations, women, children, and vulnerable groups still struggle with limited access to medical support. Recent outbreaks, such as Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, have further exposed gaps in preparedness and the need for stronger community trust in health systems.
The 2026 initiative will introduce a range of activities to bridge healthcare gaps. Mobile clinics will bring services directly to underserved areas, while community outreach programmes aim to raise awareness and provide basic care. Digital health education and telemedicine services will also play a key role, helping remote patients connect with medical professionals. Data-driven tools will be used to track needs, improve service delivery, and support disease surveillance.
Digital technology is seen as a critical part of the solution. Studies suggest that greater efficiency through digital health tools could save the global healthcare sector between $200 billion and $360 billion. These innovations can enhance disease monitoring, streamline care, and reduce delays in treatment. Y’ello Care has been running for 19 years, engaging thousands of MTN employees in projects spanning education, healthcare, youth development, and economic empowerment. In the last six years alone, the initiative has reached over 107,000 people and logged more than 56,000 hours of community work. Beyond this campaign, MTN contributes to Africa’s progress by expanding digital and financial inclusion, investing in infrastructure, and fostering innovation across sectors.
The 2026 edition of Y’ello Care will see MTN staff and partners implement practical healthcare solutions in communities across Africa. By combining mobile services, digital tools, and local engagement, the programme aims to improve access and resilience in vulnerable areas. The outcomes will be measured in expanded care coverage, stronger disease response, and greater trust in health systems.
