Mysterious disappearance of Massachusetts scientist leaves no clues behind

Jason Thomas, a 5'5", 180 lb man from Wakefield, Massachusetts, vanished on the night of December 12, 2025. His wife, Kristen Bartoli, last saw him as he left their home just before midnight. Police have since launched searches but found no trace of the 45-year-old assistant director of chemical biology at Novartis.

Thomas was captured on a Ring doorbell camera at 11:53 PM, crossing a street near a train station and railroad tracks. He wore a gray and white Columbia puffer jacket, a blue wool sweater, dark blue jeans, blue sneakers with white stripes, and a black hat labelled Turtle Fur. His appearance included black grey hair and a distinctive mole on his right nostril.

Kristen Bartoli has placed posters along the train route between Wakefield and Haverhill, Massachusetts, in case her husband boarded a train that night. The couple had been married for ten years and shared five dogs. Friends noted Thomas had been struggling following the recent deaths of his parents. Wakefield Police conducted searches using canine teams and drones but uncovered no clues. No advanced technologies have been deployed since December 13 to analyse traces near the railway line or the frozen Lake Quannapowitt. Authorities do not suspect foul play. A dive team with sonar equipment will search the lake in spring to rule out the possibility he entered the water.

The Wakefield Police Department continues to ask for public assistance in locating Jason Thomas. Anyone with information is urged to call 781-245-1212. The search remains active, with further efforts planned as weather conditions allow.
