Nevolat Launches as Germany's New Affordable Weight-Loss Drug in December 2025

A new generic weight-loss drug called Nevolat will hit the German market in mid-December 2025. Zentiva, the pharmaceutical company behind it, aims to offer a more affordable alternative to the original liraglutide medication. The launch follows growing demand for obesity treatments, with several other generic versions already available or soon to arrive.

Nevolat will be released on either December 10 or 11, 2025, providing another option for patients struggling with obesity. The drug is approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or higher, as well as overweight individuals (BMI 27 or above) who have weight-related health issues. Treatment starts at 0.6 mg per day, gradually increasing to a maximum dose of 3 mg.

The medication works by boosting insulin secretion, slowing digestion, and reducing appetite. Patients and doctors can monitor its effects early due to daily dosing, which also helps assess tolerability. Zentiva has priced Nevolat at €79 for the initial supply and €129 per month for ongoing treatment, significantly cheaper than the brand-name version.

Dr. Thomas Kurscheid, a general practitioner, has welcomed the arrival of more affordable obesity treatments. Zentiva also plans to avoid the supply shortages that have affected similar drugs in the past. By December 2025, three generic liraglutide versions (from Biocon, Richter, and Neuraxpharm) will already be on the market, with two more (Stada and Hexal) expected in early 2026.

Nevolat comes in prefilled pens (3x3 ml and 5x3 ml), making it easier for patients to self-administer. Self-paying individuals are likely to benefit the most from its lower cost compared to the original medication.

Nevolat's launch expands access to liraglutide-based treatments in Germany. With a structured dosing plan and lower price, it provides a practical option for long-term weight management. The drug's availability from mid-December 2025 will coincide with a growing selection of generic alternatives in the coming months.
