New Global Tools Released to Combat Rising Mpox Cases in Africa
Global health authorities have released new resources to help manage and prevent monkeypox (Mpox) outbreaks. These materials come as 16 countries, mostly in Africa, report a total of 7,524 confirmed cases. The Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and Nigeria remain the hardest hit regions.
The tools include printable guides, social media content, and multilingual materials designed for both public awareness and clinical use.
As of October 6, 2024, the World Health Organization has recorded 7,524 confirmed Mpox cases across 16 nations. The Democratic Republic of Congo leads with 6,169 infections, followed by Burundi (987) and Nigeria (84). These figures highlight the ongoing spread in Central, East, and West Africa.
To support outbreak response, health officials have developed printable resources for risk communication and community engagement. Some of these materials are tailored for clinical settings or infection control, ensuring safe and effective use in healthcare environments.
Social media resources are also available, featuring messages and images for online and print distribution. All materials are provided in English, with certain versions accessible in Spanish and other languages. The goal is to improve awareness, prevention, and adherence to clinical guidelines in affected and at-risk regions.
The new resources aim to strengthen public health responses in countries battling Mpox or preparing for potential outbreaks. By offering multilingual and adaptable materials, authorities seek to enhance both prevention efforts and medical support. The tools are now accessible to health workers, communities, and organisations worldwide.
