New Probiotic Study Reveals Breakthrough for Gut Health Relief
A new clinical trial has revealed promising results for a probiotic food product, Florida ProBio, in improving gut health. The findings were presented at an event held at Dhaka University’s Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences on Thursday. Experts gathered to discuss the benefits of probiotics in managing digestive disorders.
The study focused on Karkuma BioComfort, a formulated probiotic containing Bacillus coagulans and prebiotic FOS. Research showed it significantly reduced symptoms like acidity, heartburn, bloating, constipation, and diarrhoea in patients with GERD and IBS. Professor AK Obaidul Haque of Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University (MBSTU) led the trial as the principal investigator.
The event was organised by MBSTU’s department of food technology and nutritional science. Professor Hossain Uddin Shekhar, vice-chancellor of Gopalganj Science and Technology University, attended as the chief guest. Renowned nutrition scientist Jeba Mahmud spoke on probiotics’ role in easing gastrointestinal issues in children. Arun Kumar Mondal, executive director of Organic Nutrition Limited, also addressed the gathering.
Speakers highlighted the global trend of using probiotic-based foods to lower the risk of chronic diseases. Discussions covered probiotics’ broader health benefits, their rising popularity as functional foods, and the regulatory frameworks guiding their use.
The trial’s results suggest Karkuma BioComfort could offer relief for common digestive problems. The event underscored growing interest in probiotics as a dietary solution for long-term health. Further research and regulatory support may expand their use in managing gastrointestinal conditions.
