New Supplement Aims to Sharpen Senior Dogs' Cognitive Decline
Standard Process has released a new supplement aimed at improving brain health in older dogs. Called Canine Cognition Support, the powdered product targets cognitive decline in ageing pets. The company designed it to help manage behavioural changes often seen in senior dogs.
The supplement focuses on multiple aspects of brain function. These include circulation, neurotransmitter production and cellular energy metabolism. Its formula contains Ginkgo Biloba, B vitamins, Lion's Mane Mushroom extract, Panax Ginseng and CoQ10. It also includes Swiss chard and buckwheat, both grown on Standard Process' own Certified Organic Farm.
Katrina Verdeur, the company's pet product development manager, holds a master's degree in food science. She notes that many pet owners may not recognise the early signs of cognitive decline in dogs. Instead, they often notice shifts in behaviour first. These changes, known as DISHAA symptoms, include disorientation, altered interactions, sleep disturbances, house soiling, activity changes and increased anxiety.
Verdeur highlights the importance of whole food-based supplements in supporting brain health as dogs age. The product is currently available only through veterinary practices.
Canine Cognition Support offers a targeted approach to maintaining cognitive function in senior dogs. By combining organic ingredients with researched compounds, the supplement aims to address behavioural and neurological changes. Pet owners must consult their vet to access the product.
