Philippines reports 4,633 new HIV cases in early 2026 as sexual transmission surges

The Philippines recorded 4,633 new HIV cases in the first three months of 2026. Health officials reported an average of 51 infections detected each day. Sexual transmission accounted for the vast majority of cases during this period. January saw the highest number of infections, with 1,690 new cases. February followed with 1,407 reported cases, while March recorded 1,536.

Of the total cases, 3,095 were linked to male-to-male sexual contact. Another 567 involved transmission through male-to-male and male-to-female sex. Meanwhile, 552 cases resulted from male-to-female sexual contact. Overall, 91% of all new HIV infections were attributed to sexual transmission.

The daily average of 51 new cases highlights the ongoing spread of HIV in the country. Health authorities continue to monitor trends as sexual contact remains the primary mode of transmission. The data reflects the need for targeted prevention efforts across affected groups.
