Prince Frédéric von Anhalt, aged 82, has undergone emergency surgery after a wound from a car accident in Thailand became severely infected. The former husband of Zsa Zsa Gabor was rushed to hospital when the injury, initially stitched up, reopened and worsened while he was filming a reality show in Germany.
The incident began in January 2026, when von Anhalt was involved in a car accident in Thailand. Doctors treated his arm injury at the time, but the wound later reopened and developed a dangerous infection.
While working on a television programme in Waldshut-Tiengen, he noticed the worsening condition. An ambulance immediately took him to a nearby hospital, where surgeons acted quickly. During the procedure, they drained a significant amount of pus and removed embedded dirt to stop the infection from reaching the bone.
After the operation, von Anhalt received strong antibiotics and had an arm brace fitted to aid recovery. He has since spoken about his late wife, Zsa Zsa Gabor, believing she has watched over him as a 'guardian angel' and spared him from more serious harm.
The surgery took place on Wednesday, with medical staff confirming its urgency. Von Anhalt's treatment continues as he recovers from the infection. His case highlights the risks of untreated wounds, even months after an initial car accident.
