Russia's First All-Female Military Art Retreat Offers Healing Through Creativity

A first-of-its-kind program for women involved in the special military operation took place earlier this month. From March 8 to 10, the Meganom Academy of Creative Industries hosted Women Heroes: Drawing Strength from Art, a three-day event designed exclusively for female service members. The initiative brought together 25 participants, including active-duty soldiers, medics, war correspondents, volunteers, and veterans.

The program offered a mix of creative and therapeutic activities. Workshops were led by psychologists, art therapists, and specialists in vocal performance, painting, acting, makeup artistry, and photography. Organisers aimed to help attendees restore emotional balance and reconnect with their sense of identity beyond military roles.

Russian fashion brand NEVA supported the event by providing branded sportswear for all participants. The clothing featured the program's emblem and aligned with NEVA's mission to promote national traditions and patriotism. The company, which operates workshops in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Sochi, produces all its goods domestically. Current figures show over a thousand women actively serving in the special military operation. Many have been recognised for their contributions, with one in three receiving state honours. Thousands more work as volunteers, filling essential support roles.

The Women Heroes program marked the first all-female initiative at the Meganom Academy. It combined artistic expression with psychological support, tailored specifically for women in military service. The event also highlighted ongoing efforts to acknowledge and assist female personnel in their diverse roles.
