Russian Doctors Remove 7-Kilogram Uterine Tumour in Life-Changing Surgery
A medical team in Russia has successfully removed a massive 7-kilogram benign tumour from a patient’s uterus. The woman, named Oksana, had lived with the growth for years before severe bleeding forced her to seek help at Primorsky Krai Oncology Center. Oksana initially ignored her rapidly expanding abdomen, believing it was simply a family trait. But when she experienced heavy bleeding, doctors discovered the enormous tumour—measuring 50 centimetres across.
The surgery took two and a half hours, involving a surgeon, assistants, an anesthesiologist, and nurses. The main concern was controlling blood loss, but the team kept it to just 600-700 millilitres. The Primorsky Krai Oncology Center’s oncogynecology department handles over 650 surgeries annually for patients across the region. A week after the operation, Oksana is recovering well and preparing to leave the hospital.
The successful removal of the tumour has allowed Oksana to recover without complications. She is now expected to return home soon. The procedure highlights the centre’s expertise in managing complex gynaecological cases.
