Scientists at Tomsk State University are developing new ways to extract valuable compounds from local plants. The project focuses on blueberries, blackcurrants, and pine needles—all rich in vitamins and beneficial chemicals. A team of chemists, biologists, and immunologists is working together to improve how these substances are delivered in medical treatments. The research aims to create technologies for extracting antioxidants, triterpenic acids, and labdane alcohols. These compounds are known for their health benefits: antioxidants help fight infections and cancer, while labdane alcohols have strong antimicrobial properties. However, current treatments face challenges like low absorption, breakdown during digestion, and poor solubility.

The project is part of the 'Priority 2030' programme and involves collaboration with local producers 'Solagift' and 'SAVA'. By using Siberian plant materials, the team hopes to develop more effective delivery systems for biologically active substances (BAS). The goal is to make these treatments more reliable and accessible. The findings are expected to be ready by the end of 2025.

If successful, this work could lead to better drug formulations using natural plant extracts. The partnership between the university and local businesses may also boost regional production of health-related products. The results will be shared once the study concludes in late 2025.
