First Responders in Fire Incident: "One Just Functions Then" - Six Young First Responders Save Lives in Chemnitz Nursing Home Fire
Six young first responders sprang into action during a fire at a Chemnitz nursing home. The group, trained as emergency medical responders, were attending a seminar when they heard the alarm and spotted smoke. Their quick thinking helped evacuate residents and contain the blaze before further harm occurred.
The incident unfolded when the six volunteers, part of the German Red Cross in Saxony, noticed smoke billowing from the building. Without hesitation, they rushed inside and began evacuating elderly residents. Maja Feil and the others carried people to wheelchairs and moved them to safety.
Clemens Michael, who had prior experience as a volunteer firefighter, tackled the flames on the second floor. Despite lacking proper first-aid equipment, the group remained calm and focused. Their actions prevented further injuries, though one 84-year-old man tragically died. Seven others were hurt, with three requiring hospital treatment. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The German Red Cross later commended the young responders for their bravery. They confirmed that the group was managing well emotionally after the ordeal.
The experience has reinforced the volunteers' commitment to emergency services. Their training and quick response made a critical difference during the fire. Authorities continue to investigate how the blaze started.
