Slipknot's Shawn 'Clown' Crahan faces urgent heart surgery after near-death scare

Shawn 'Clown' Crahan, a founding member of the band Slipknot, will undergo heart surgery to correct an electrical issue in his heart. The musician revealed he has been experiencing severe symptoms, including moments where he felt close to death.

The procedure, described as straightforward, will not require open-chest surgery and is expected to allow him to leave the hospital the same day. Crahan first noticed something was wrong after his last tour. He struggled with extreme fatigue and episodes where his heart raced uncontrollably. At one point, he briefly lost consciousness, leading those around him to fear he was having a heart attack.

When a nurse tried to perform an EKG, they were unable to get a reading. This prompted further medical checks, confirming the need for surgery. Despite the seriousness of his symptoms, the procedure itself is considered routine and low-risk. The surgery aims to stabilise Crahan’s heart function and eliminate his distressing symptoms. With no need for a lengthy recovery, he is expected to return home shortly after the operation. The outcome will determine whether he can resume his usual activities without further complications.
