Toddler's Near-Fatal Peanut Choking Saved by Emergency Surgery in Primorsky Krai
A three-year-old child in Primorsky Krai was rushed to hospital after choking on a peanut. The incident led to a rapid medical response when the child's condition worsened later in the day. The child initially coughed but seemed to recover, breathing normally. By evening, however, they became weak and struggled with shortness of breath and wheezing.
An ambulance took the child to Spassk City Hospital, where doctors discovered a peanut fragment stuck in the bronchus. The piece had swollen, causing inflammation and blocking the airway. An endoscopist from Primorsky Regional Children's Clinical Hospital No. 1 was called in urgently. Under general anaesthesia, the specialist broke the peanut into smaller pieces and removed them one by one.
The child is now in stable condition and no longer in danger. Doctors confirmed the airway was fully cleared after the procedure. Recovery is progressing as expected.
