Yamal's free Vitamin D program boosts early childhood health for 45,500 kids

Authorities in Yamal have provided free Vitamin D supplements to over 45,500 children since 2024. The programme targets infants and toddlers up to three years old, aiming to support their growth and health. Pediatricians prescribe the supplement during regular check-ups or virtual visits. The initiative began in 2024, with 21,106 children receiving the vitamin that year. In 2025, the number reached 19,793, and another 5,000 have benefited so far this year. Each child gets two bottles annually, taken every three months.

Vitamin D helps prevent calcium deficiency, which is vital for strong bones, teeth, and a healthy immune system. It also reduces the risk of rickets and supports the nervous system. Dosage varies by age: infants under one receive 1,000 units (two drops), while those aged one to three get 1,500 units (three drops). The supplement is distributed after a paediatrician’s assessment, whether in person, at home, or via telemedicine. Regional authorities fund the programme to ensure all eligible children have access.

The scheme has already reached thousands of young children across Yamal. By providing free Vitamin D, officials aim to improve early childhood health and reduce preventable conditions. The next distribution cycle will continue as scheduled in the coming months.
