Zurich's New Spine Center Revolutionizes Treatment for Complex Back Disorders
A new centre for complex spinal disorders has opened at Zurich City Hospital. It is the first of its kind in Switzerland to combine multiple medical specialties under one roof. The facility aims to improve treatment for patients with complicated back and spine conditions. The Spine Center brings together experts from neurosurgery, rheumatology, neurology, radiology, orthopaedics, and pain management. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that patients receive coordinated care for conditions that often have multiple causes.
At the heart of the centre is the Spine Board, a panel of specialists who review diagnostic results and decide on the best treatment plan. The board evaluates each case individually, ensuring tailored and effective care. Leading the centre is PD Dr. Daniel Coluccia, who also serves as chief physician of neurosurgery and spinal surgery at the hospital. His role includes overseeing the collaboration between different medical teams. The launch of the Spine Center reinforces the hospital's focus on integrated, patient-centred medicine.
The new facility fills a gap in Swiss healthcare, as no other centre in the country offers such a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach. Patients with complex spinal disorders now have access to a unified team of specialists working together on their treatment.
