Hiker injured in Agura Gorge rescued after ankle injury near waterfalls

A 52-year-old hiker was injured in Agura Gorge on Monday evening while exploring the area with his wife. The man hurt his ankle near the waterfalls, prompting an emergency response by rescue teams from Russia's Southern Regional Rescue Center of the Emergency Ministry (EMERCOM).

The incident happened as the couple trekked toward the waterfalls. Rescuers found them roughly 200 metres from where the Agura and Agurchik rivers meet.

Medics stabilised the man's ankle with a splint before carefully moving him to an EMERCOM off-road vehicle. He was then taken out of the gorge and handed over to ambulance doctors in the city for further treatment.

The identity of the injured man has not been made public.

The emergency operation ensured the hiker received prompt medical attention. His condition will now be assessed by hospital staff. No further details about his recovery have been released.
